However, something amazing happened to fall upon me this last week.
I'll go back and start from the beginning of the story.
*ahem* *COUGH HACK COUGH*
At the beginning of the school year, I had a lack of inspiration and started to work on a simple rope-coil project involving thick paper rope and hot glue. What I didn't realize, is that this project ended up with a base like that of a basket with a four foot diameter, and would soon take up two months total to complete just the basic form. On top of this, I covered the curvy sculpture in newspaper mache, and wires resembling branches on the top, which were soon covered in plaster strips (baaad idea, plaster strips are hard to work with in the first place, let alone getting them to stick to wire). However, the finished form was soon covered in gradients of green color, and silver paint which spilled out of the opening at the top. I spent a total of about 4 months on this, and it ended up looking like something that would be at the bottom of an ocean. Nevertheless, I was proud of it.
Having this project done, I soon moved on to working with silver, and had fun casting a spider, and placing it within a broken pocketwatch case. This was about the time my art teacher reminded me of the annual Scholastic Art and Writing competition held at Wichita that we always tried to enter pieces in. Well, I entered my scuplture and silver pieces instantly, and then forgot about it for the time being.
About four weeks later, I recieved word that the results were in, so I tracked down my teacher, and lo and behold, my name showed up twice in highlighted print. To my amazement, not only did I win two Gold Keys for both entries, but I was an American Visions Nominee, and my art was being sent to New York for judification.
My heart quite literally stopped beating.
Only five pieces out of the state were chosen each year.
So, at this current moment, I'm incapable of remaining stationary in my chair... I've never been this happy in my entire life...
In a couple days, we should be journeying as a class to the gallery in Wichita, KS, and I'll be sure and bring my camera to upload pictures of the pieces I entered.
